SHOuT2 Youth Conferences - Countywide

SHOuT2 is a multi-agency organization that addresses safety issues with the young people of Surrey.

In 2016, the organization ran three conferences in venues across Surrey on Sexting and Child Sexual Exploitation, issues of huge concern to young people and those who care for them. The intention was two-fold: to raise awareness of the dangers of sexting and where to turn for help when necessary.

All Surrey schools were invited and about two hundred young people attended, reflecting a cross section of the Surrey youth community. The structure of the day with a play, activities, a Q and A session gave the young people an opportunity to reflect on their attitudes to sexting and its consequences. Conversations that took place between the young people was an eye-opener for many of the adults present.

The funding provided by the HSYA was much appreciated as was the presence of the High Sheriff at the Guildford event.

The High Sheriff said:“I attended one of the presentations and was also one of the panellists for questions and answers at the lunch break. The attendees joined in enthusiastically with their anonymous remote responders and it was quite concerning how many had already received or sent messages. They certainly learned a great deal from the session - as did I.”
