Relate Anger Management work with young people helping them to understand and deal with their anger. Young people benefit from an integrated counselling and life skills training approach by improving their self-esteem and power of emotional expression, in particular with regard to unhealthy behavioural patterns and difficult emotions such as anger. Relate Anger Management run workshops in secondary schools where young people are taken through a range of scenarios to learn how to deal with their anger. The long term benefits of this approach are better mental health outcomes for young people, a reduction in the number of those not in education, employment and training, and a reduction in antisocial behaviour. The project enables young people to gain a better understanding of the physical and emotional bases of anger behaviour, look at behaviour patterns and explore methods to deal with angry behaviour. Following a visit to one of the workshops Peter Lee commented that “I was very impressed by the work Relate do to help equip young people for adult life”.
