Leatherhead Youth Project (LYP) is a local charity passionate about helping young people. It offers innovative youth services in Leatherhead and across Mole Valley by responding to local needs and helping young people to be safe and happy by introducing them to potentially life-changing opportunities. LYP offers a diverse range of projects and activities in order to provide long-term support. These activities include the BFree Youth Café, together with counselling and mentoring, sports projects, international trips and help to gain qualifications.

Within their overall programme, LYP are establishing a youth club in the Bookham Youth Centre. They have also decided to broaden their approach within the community and within local schools and to reach out to young people and encourage them to take greater responsibility, attend appropriate courses and participate in a range of additional opportunities.

HSYA funds will help towards meeting staff and project costs and the purchase of some equipment. Richard Whittington made two visits to the LYP and said “I met many members of the Project during a visit by HRH The Earl of Wessex and they were all hugely enthusiastic about the benefits that they had gained from the various schemes available. On another visit subsequently I had a very good light lunch at their cafe - much recommended.”
